- a day at the KIT. On the day of the oral exams nine enthusiastic students from Ms Klages’s biology course went on a trip to KIT to look at their genetic fingerprint, which makes everyone individual. We, the students worked in a lab for hours where we followed strict protocols.

First we took a sample from our saliva and amplified it via PCR. After that we split up our samples according to their lengths with the help of gel electrophoresis. At the end we could see sequences of our DNA and compare it with one another’s. This is also how scientists work to examine unknown genes. All in all the day was a great insight because we could put our theory into practice.
